Approachable, down-to-earth and collaborative

We are driven by a collective enthusiasm for backing people who have the ideas and passion to take their business to the next level, and our work is grounded in the belief that doing well and doing the right thing can co-exist.

Frustrated with the approach of the private equity (“PE”) firms who thought they were more important than the management teams they were backing, we established Palatine to put the teams we backed front and centre of every investment we’ve made.

Formed in 2005 by founding partners Gary Tipper, Ed Fazakerley and Tony Dickin, we sought to prove that being different and being based outside London didn’t mean that you couldn’t raise funding from likeminded people. Despite what many outside of the PE industry think, it is not the PE firm that the world revolves around. Every PE firm has money, and in most circumstances that money comes from the same sources. We can help by bringing our experience, expertise and extensive network of entrepreneurs and business leaders to help enhance and accelerate your growth, but at the end of the day it is your plan we are there to support.

We are headquartered in Manchester and have offices in London and Birmingham. We operate at both a regional and a national level. We are proud that our horizons and team have expanded, but we’ve retained the spirit we started with.

Our people are what makes us best-in-class. The reputation we’ve cultivated for speaking frankly, delivering on our promises and acting with integrity is a big reason why we win deals. We bring more to the table than capital.

Over a decade ago, we pioneered our leading sustainability framework and have embedded it across our investment approach and our portfolio ever since.

This innate belief in doing the right thing, alongside accelerating growth and generating strong returns, is also why we were the first in our market to raise a returns focused impact fund, , dedicated to investing in commercially driven businesses with a mission to positively impact on society or the environment.
