Palatine-Backed Suntera Global Announces Acquisition in Luxembourg

Suntera Global, provider of fund, corporate and private client services, has acquired Luxembourg-based boutique fund administration and corporate services firm Reference Financial Services SA.

The acquisition, which is subject to appropriate regulatory approvals, adds to Suntera Global’s client base while strengthening its presence in EU markets. The move supports its growth strategy and complements its office network in Jersey, Cayman, Bahamas, Isle of Man, Malta, Hong Kong and Switzerland.

Founded in 2003, Reference has a strong team with long standing industry experience and a global client base active in private equity, real estate, intellectual property, energy trading, e-commerce, wealth management, advisory services and maritime and ship financing.

The deal is the 4th strategic acquisition to be announced since we backed the MBO of Suntera Global (then SMP Group) in 2019.

Partner, Andy Lees, said: “We continue to support the excellent management team at Suntera, in bolstering the business’ global reach and client service proposition with strategic acquisitions. Reference is a great fit, sharing Suntera’s ethos of providing a tailored, personal service from talented and experienced professionals, while providing us with an additional key footprint within EU markets.”

Reference is regulated by the CSSF. It is authorised as a Professional of the Financial Sector (PSF) in Luxembourg and, in addition, Reference is an accredited maritime manager supervised by the local maritime authority, the ‘Commissariat aux Affairs Maritimes.’

Our decision to join Suntera Global is an exciting move designed to provide our clients with access to a depth of additional expertise in many other key markets where we are not currently represented, while maintaining the same high quality level of personal service but with a shared focus on responsibility and ambition.
