Palatine raises over £13,000 for the Diwali Basket Brigade

At the start of 2022, we voted as an organisation to support charities that help Sustainable Development Goal 2, which aims to create a world free of Hunger by 2030. This year, we chose to support the Diwali Basket Brigade, an annual event organised by The Diwali Foundation, providing food hampers to socially deprived and vulnerable households from all faiths and backgrounds in the UK.

Georgina Wendon-Smith, Portfolio Manager at Palatine, said: “We’ve proudly chosen the Diwali Basket Brigade as our charity of choice because they brilliantly brighten the lives of those in need through the simple act of giving, having supported over 5,000 families in need. Our commitment to this cause isn’t just a donation; it reflects our core values of making a meaningful difference.”

To raise money for the Diwali Basket Brigade, we held two events; the first was our annual Birmingham Charity Darts Night at Flight Club. The event raised £10,280 and saw the team from RSM take home the winning trophy.

Our second event was our Active Challenge, which took place throughout September and across our three offices. Over the course of the month, we encouraged our team members to get active in any way possible, and for every 1 km walked, swam, cycled, climbed, etc. Palatine donated £1. The team covered an amazing 3238km, raising £3238 for the charity.

The total amount raised from both events will fund 1,354 hampers for families in need.

The event has grown from strength to strength, and our ambition is to deliver as many food hampers as we possibly can to families of all faiths and backgrounds across the UK.

Diwali is a time of celebration and happiness. However, unfortunately there are many people in our communities who, for whatever reason, don’t have much to cheer about. Some families struggle to make ends meet, others are simply feeling lonely or rejected by society. DBB is our small effort to support and spread the message of hope, happiness, and giving to those in need from all faiths and backgrounds.
